Our Materials & Fabric Engineering

Built for babies. Designed for real life.

When it came to choosing materials for the Tazzy Mat, I didn’t start with trends or marketing claims. I started with one simple question: would I feel comfortable placing my own baby on this, every single day?

If the answer wasn’t an immediate yes - it didn’t make the cut.

1. Organic Cotton, Because Baby Skin Comes First

The top layer of the Tazzy Mat is made from OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified organic cotton. This certification means every component of the fabric has been tested against harmful substances and is considered safe for use against sensitive skin - especially important during the first year of life.

Organic cotton is naturally:

  • Hypoallergenic, perfect for sensitive baby skin
  • Breathable, helping reduce heat build-up
  • Lightweight, so babies don’t feel trapped or uncomfortable
  • Soft without chemical treatments

There’s no plasticky feel. No crinkling sound. No harsh finishes. Just cotton that feels like cotton should.

2. What’s Inside the Mat (And Why It Matters): Thin TPU Waterproof Layer

Beneath the cotton top layer sits a thin TPU waterproof layer. TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is widely used in baby and medical products because it provides effective waterproofing without stiffness, smell, or bulk.

This layer allows the mat to:

  • Absorb spills and accidents (over 1 litre of liquid)
  • Protect surfaces underneath
  • Stay flexible and comfortable for everyday use

The bottom layer is cotton as well because I didn’t want shortcuts or unnecessary synthetics where babies play, lie, or could potentially even just touch!

And yes, the mat is free from PVC, BPA, phthalates, and other nasties.

3. How the Fast-Drying Design Works

Fast-drying isn’t a coating - it’s fabric engineering. The Tazzy Mat dries fast because of:

  • Thin, engineered layers (no bulky padding)
  • A circular porous weave in the cotton top layer that helps moisture wick and release faster
  • No foam layers that trap water

The mat absorbs generously, then releases moisture efficiently when hung to dry. In most cases, it’s ready again within hours, not days.

Important to note:
The mat is not wipe-clean by design. That was a conscious decision to avoid plastic finishes and chemical coatings in favour of longevity, comfort, and safety.

Because if I wouldn’t use it for my own baby, I wouldn’t put it in yours.
